WebPage - Is one specific page of a Website. It is usually an HTML file,
but can be is .asp or .pl or even .swf, and can also be refelcted
on the page itself by a title.
Website - This is the actual website page(s) that display your content. It
is not the address or the just what you see, it's the Coding of the
entire website. Anyone can create a website, we believe, but the
actual coding and decency of it takes a practiced hand, and as an
example, most mistakes are made by missing code that better enables
search engines to index your website, if it all.
Domain - Top-Level Domains are .Com .Net .Ws .Org .Guv and so forth
They can only be bpught through a certified registrar, such
as Network Solutions, at a cost of anywhere from $30 to as much
as $75 per year, however you'll be required to obtain a 2-Year
set-up.
Host - This is where your Website resides on the internet so that it is
accessible 24/7 and can be the most costly aspect of obtaining
a decent website. You NEED a Host, they are equipped to handle the
influx of requests and security as well.
There are many things to consider in obtaining a decent Host, and
we have entered into relationships with a very reliable Host that
seems to fit the bill at this time. (2001). Cgi-Bins, Bandwidth,
Uptime, Email Accounts, Support, and so much more must be weighed
into the entire package deal of a hosting fee.
Registrar - The company/service/dudes who handle submitting your
Domain request to "Network Solutions", which is the only certified
source for Domain Registrations.
URL - This is your "Website Address" on the internet. A URL for a Top Level
Domain would be something like http://www.microsoft.com and a URL
for a person private webpage might be something very long, such as
http://www.thier-isp.net/~personsname/index.html and can be very
difficult for friends to remember. But that is a URL.
We obtain Customized URLs for Personal Sites and Bussiness Sites,
from Free to the normal Registrar price, so none of our clients
ends up with anything like http://www.tomcat.ws/~yourname/index.html
BROWSER - A Browser is the program you use to surf the Internet, such as
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, etcetera. We recommend
you use Microsoft Internet Explorer due to its' compatibility with
internet options since most programmers and application developers
use Internet Explorer (IE or MSIE) as a model around which to create
programs.
DATA SIZE - Here's a Table you can use to refer to when deciding is a
file will take too long to download or upload, or for example, small
enough to place onto a floppy disk.
AMOUNT OF DATA IN SIZE:
----------------------
8 Bits = 1 Byte = 1 Character
1,000 Bytes = 1 Kilobyte (Kb)
1 Kb = 1,000 Numbers and Letters
1 MB = 1 MegaByte or = 1 Million Kbs
1 GB = 1 GigaByte or = 1 Billion Kbs
Internet-Connection Speed - Here's a guideline for what's slow & fast
surfing speeds. You need 56k or faster to listen to streaming audio (music) decent,
(As well as enough RAM memory for buffering for uninterupted play), and you'll need
something extremely fast and High-Bandwidth to watch movies online. Of course, CPU
speed, Random-Access Memory size (RAM) are factors as well.
INTERNET CONNECTION SPEEDS:
--------------------------
33Kb Per Second Modem = Slow
56k Modem = Fast
56 ISDN = Faster Yet
Cable = Extremely Fast
T1, T3 = Super Fast (ISP Fast)
CPU (Computer Speed) - The Central Proccessing Unit (CPU) is the
actual "brain" of your computer, and the faster it thinks and
the more capacity it has the better off your computer will be.
SPEED OF PC AND PERIPHERIALS:
----------------------------
Based in Hertz
Central Proccessing Unit-
160Mhz CPU is considered Very Slow
200Mhz CPU is "Net-Worthy"
500Mhz CPU is fast
Platforms - A Platform is the the basis of System Opertaions you are
running from. It is already installed on your PC and is most likely
Microsofts "Windows". Here are exmaples of Platforms:
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows 2000
Linux Redhat
Unix
